Copying parts of one document into another

ProApeProApe Member Posts: 181 ✭✭

Hello,

I had actually finished my pen holder for the milling machine. All that was missing was the exact thickness of the slide rail, the position of its holes and those of the threads in the carriage.
I only got that information today when I received the slide rail.
After I had drawn and extracted the holes for fixing the rail and the pen holder itself to the carriage, and corrected the thickness of the rail, I realised that some things in my design had become mixed up or even disappeared.
I assume that this is not due to Onshape, but to my own inaccurate methodology; I always create all parts in a single part studio.
Therefore, I decided to start again from scratch in a new document.
To avoid creating unnecessary work for myself, I would like to copy the parts that have remained intact, along with all associated sketches and extrusions, into a new document, and cut the relationship to the original document, but so far I have not found a way to do this. I only found a way to copy an entire part studio, which would not help me because I would also copy all the errors.
So my question is: is there a way to do what I want, and if so, how?

Kind regards

ProApe

Please share a link to your document so that we can assess the best way to handle this.

Multi-part modeling is good, and I prefer it most of the time. But it sounds like you need your parts have unintended dependencies on your broken features. You can right click on a feature and show dependencies. This will give you a list of every feature in the tree related to this feature.

If you're able to share a link to your document, I can provide specific advice tailored to your document. For now, it sounds like you need to re-model the whole thing and keep an eye on how you reference the other parts features.

    Hi,

    The link: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/1c5beeb06afdeeb7cdcbc514/w/8272fe53c12cc718dec56349/e/5492fb48c3f2e57ff6b26050?renderMode=0&uiState=68a70f13d30e764e62cc90b6

An example of what is missing after the simple changes I made: a cylinder; the screenshot with the cylinder is from an earlier version of the document.

Another problem I often encounter is that when I move a part to its place using transport and want to change something about it, it reappears in its original place, which always irritates me.
