Oval ring as twisted rope?

Hello.
I'm struggling create an oval ring that looks like a twisted rope:
(this is made out of 2 strands; I'm trying make it as 3 strands)
I found several topics creating twisted cable, but for some reason my attempt recreate it doesn't work:

Can someone point me how to achieve this?
Thank you!

A twisted rope consists of many smaller wires. I would not recreate that with a loft but with a sweep along a spiral of many circles along the circumference of the diameter of the rope you have in mind.

@kees_bijker The problem I'm having is how to make it twist going around a straight path (well, oval path).
Your example twists individual "threads" and also the whole thing, because it uses the same curve for both at the same time.
well do you have a photo of what you try to recreate?
as soon as you manage to make the helix along an oval path, something I am not sure how to go about it right now, you are nearly there.
But if you do not mean to create something made from different threads, as a twisted rope is, then you need to clarify a little more with a photo of what it is you have in mind.
I've updated the original post with a screenshot.
The helix around the oval path is already in my text document as well as cross-section of the rope I'm trying to twist.
ok I understand what you mean, and I am afraid I do not have the answer.
I created a new sketch perpendicular to your spiral around the oval, and tried sweeping it. For some strange reason it kind of inverts the shape before completing the first revolution, and that then fails the new part.
Sorry you have to wait for somebody with more knowledge on helixes and sweeps, or who knows of a better way to do this.
Btw, did you try to create an oval round rope and then delete the sections you do not want with a sweep along the curved helix?

I managed one section but as soon as you do the second it fails to create a valid boolean. I am stumped.
