How To Fix A Tricky Replicate

Hi @martin_kopplow, This is related to the post below but I thought this issue was getting off subject so I brought it here.

Not only is Replicate fast it also config changes to the Seed gets pushed its instances which is very useful for this design intent but I have a problem with the fastener geometry not orientating to the destination geometry. See demo video and document link.

I see the issue. I guess this feature has been developed with fasteners like screws an d bolts in mind. There is replicate for individual edges, but this won't do in your case. You might want to use assembly mirror for this. It is kinda clever in figuring out the fasteners don't actually need to be mirrored, but can be translaed into place, so there won't be any left/right fasteners in your BOM.

That is not an ideal approach, though, for it won't work on irregular shapes.

I think it would be worth while making the mate connectors created by the replacte tool user editable, so the orientation could be flipped on the opposite edge.

Maybe it is time for an enhancement request

Here is what I ended up doing:

    Love this:

For four or any small number, that'll be less clicks than setting up a more complex feature. You could even pattern them. But that'd not be robust downstream, when edits are to me made. I'm with you in that the replicate feature should be smarter. I added a link to my Improvement Request to the discussion in my previous posting.
