Reapply features not working as expected

I'm having issues making reapply features do what I need it to. I'm trying to make 10 copies of a part, each with a different specific dimension varied by a set amount. I have tried to use this Tech Tip article to create what I need, but it seems that my sketches are constrained by the origin or default planes too much because the dimension that I need to vary is remaining the same. I'm not sure if it's the fact that it's a pattern of a pattern or what it means for a feature to be constrained by the default planes or origin, but I have tried everything I know to either make the sketch not constrained by the default geometry, and I'm completely stuck. If someone was able to make a rectangular prism with a side that increases by a single unit per instance of a linear pattern, that's essenetially what I'm trying to do.

I also have a couple detailed videos on the subject:
Ah, I see, I hadn't selected the variable in my linear pattern, thus causing it to not be recomputed for each instance. It works perfectly now, thanks for the help. I will definitely be looking at that Youtube channel before I come here, it looks full of extremely useful information.
