Need help creating a plane at the point where a part is a specific measurement

Let's say I loft a 100mm by 100mm square on the top plane to a single point centered some distance above the middle of it to create a pyramid, is there an easy way to create an offset plane defined by the point where the width of any of the faces of the pyramid is a specific measurement without me having to work out the geometry? My example is a simplification of the problem I'm trying to solve, but the answer should allow me to do what I need to do. Thanks!

    Sounds like an ideal use of a mate connector. Mate Connectors are extremely maneuverable. They can be placed anywhere and at any position relative to axes. Among other uses, a Mate Connector can be used as a sketch plane if is what you want or perhaps to use for a split. - Scotty

    Thanks for the reply Scotty. Returning to my previous example about the pyramid, let's say I want to add the plane offset to the one which the base of the pyramid is drawn at the point at the height where the width of the sides of the pyramid is 10mm, the process would be to create a 3 point plane a side of the pyramid, then a 10mm line on that plane, and then mate connect it to the edges of the pyramid and it will snap to the point at which those edges are 10mm apart? I appreciate the help, I'm relatively new to this, attempting to incorporate CAD and 3D printing into a pottery hobby so this is a bit outside my wheelhouse.

    You're on the right track but you wouldn't need to create a plane on a side of the pyramid. Since the side is flat, you can create a sketch right on it. Yes, draw a horizontal line in that sketch from edge to edge of the triangular face and dimension it to 10mm. You can then create a Line Angle plane and go from there.

    Alternatively, using a mate connector, the mate connector could be placed on a point of that 10mm line and then realign the z axis to the Top plane and continue.

    See this document. Suppress or unsuppress the split features to see the results. I included the splits in case you were wanting to create a plane for that purpose.

    Devin,

    Are you wanting to set a known pyramid width and inclined edge length, then CAD creates a plane the appropriate distance automatically?

    If that the case maybe try this method. You can create a variable table like shown OR just edit the sketch to enter the desired length.

    100 mm base and 125 mm inclined edge length creates a plane 103.07764 mm from top plane,

    I'll send you the document if this is in line with what you want.

    Below sketch is on Plane 1 which is defined as a Line Angle. Line goes from corner to corner, angle is 90.

    SMURFCAD, I believe that is exactly what I'm trying to accomplish! I'm working on a model of an origami crane that I hope to eventually break into individual parts to 3D print then cast in plaster before making ceramic copies… I'd like to keep some of the faces consistently 5mm wide but have been finding it difficult to determine the point at which two angled 5mm faces should divert to keep it geometrically clean, and hoped that such a process was possible and someone could explain it without me having to watch hours of YouTube videos where people meticulously enter measurements and go off on tangents before perhaps getting to the solution I'm looking for. Thanks!
