  Onshape's method of industry specific features is the concept of "featurescript".  The programming language that Onshape is written in is open source.  As such were are able to write our own on demand features to automate tasks that are repetitive to our day job, but not necessarily a core CAD requirement.

  
  

  Features are usually shared be between users or simply made public.  To use a feature already written by another user is just a couple of click and it's on your toolbar and is then a feature just like any on onshape's own native features.  Personally I find it a great approach.

  
  

  Then if you have some coding ability it's of course possible to write your own.  The community is also very helpful and open with regards to hints, problem solving bug fix suggestions etc.

  
  

  One such custom feature is a Cam and Dowel feature.

  also @3dcad is an onshape user who has a cabinetry company who designs not only his products in onshape but also designed his factory to make them, so I'm sure he could add more insight that I ever could.
