It should save a sketch if it disconnects, but that depends on how it disconnected. Best not to leave a sketch open if you intend to walk away for a while. Confirm the sketch first and it will be ok. (View Post)3 -

In the sketch dialog, "disable imprinting" will remove the face you used for selection (the grey area) from the sketch. (View Post)1 -
