How to make cogwheel.

Good day. I would need advice on whether there is any tool in onshape for creating simple gears. For example, in Solidworks there is a tool that does it all by entering parameters and generating gears on the surface of the cylinder.I am enclosing a video of how it works in Solidworks https://youtu.be/xey6WL873-E?t=218 do… -
Re: Improvements to Onshape - February 20, 2026
@Derek_Van_Allen_BD Thanks for sharing your environment, reminds me of the small mom and pop shop I once worked in. We relied mostly on general title block tolerances and rarely placed a datum. My last 2 roles, and current, are of products of high precision, and now high production where cost can be effected by… -
Re: how do I apply a circular pattern to a spline?
In general, feature patterns are much more flexible, robust and powerful than sketch patterns. Even better might be to use custom feature for a cycloidal gear so you don't have to do a lot of extra work. https://cad.onshape.com/documents/347e6a9ae9d0992f4b101a70/w/d85d62ab1c292cc0d3314104/e/5a215e91d870642000bb62ed This… -
Re: Why doesn't Onshape support sketch blocks or sketch scaling?
@jerry_berns465. Greetings from FRC Team 293- we're just finishing up (late as usual) the 6th FRC robot we've designed using Onshape after prior experience with Inventor and Solidworks. Our preferred workflow is consistent with @eric_pesty's guidance- to start designing a mechanism, we populate an assembly with COTS… -
[Chatbot Copilot] - We Built a FeatureScript AI Assistant That Outperforms ChatGPT
Hey everyone, I’m a mechanical engineer, and I’ve been working with FeatureScript at my company for about a year now. Honestly, it’s been tough. Tools like ChatGPT suck at FeatureScript, which is frustrating when you know how useful they are for more familiar languages like JavaScript or Python. Unless you're a… -
Re: How to animate double rack and pinion

Currently, Onshape does not have physical stops or relations built into assemblies. However, here is one approach you could take: * Create a part that lets the pinion spin while sliding horizontally * Create another part that is attached to the rack and will slide vertically * Create another part that is attached to the… -
Re: sheet metal bracket with flanges for welding
@Glad to hear it helped! As a general rule, Onshape sheet metal works really will with a "convert from solid" approach so I would recommend trying to use that workflow whenever possible. Here's a three part series on modelling the same sheet metal approach in different ways: "Traditional" sheet metal: Second part is a… -
Creating belt between two pulleys
Howdy, I'm sort of new to CAD, but I'm creating a rock tumbler for my sister. I have a pretty basic setup, and so far everything looks alright, and now I'm trying to create a belt between two pulleys. I've attached an image there. The pulleys look very gear-like because originally I was going to use gears, but I decided to… -
Split Panel Feature
This split panel feature has been one of my favourites of the past year to work on. The combination of a really cool data structure, and an interesting implementation of point manipulators have resulted in a feature I would describe as "playful". Clicking a blue dot adds a split, a red dot remove the split. The extra cool… -
