Re: How to smooth a model
Thanks for the link @dirk_van_der_vaart . Really love watching gliders. There is at least one that flys not too far from where I live. If I remember correctly, I think it’s part of the civil air patrol To my untrained eye, it certainly looks like they had aerodynamics as a priority when they designed that arm holding the… -
Re: Revolute und Mate Performance
Limits are generally slow and if you have gear relations you are already having thins "over constrained" might also be part of the problem so I would look at switching a bunch of the revolutes to cylindrical so the don't "fight each other". I can't seem to move your assembly but I made a copy and changed most mates to… -
Re: Illustration of gear mate issue in recent question.

You will need to add a gear relation to each mate you want moving. It will make more sense the more you become familiar with the more generic mate connectors and relations of Onshape. Rather than the specific and niche mates of Solidworks. Then you can make things like this useing nothing but relationships… -
Can Construction Lines be placed at the rear of all other lines?
I use Construction Lines all the time as guidelines, they are generally the first lines that I place in my sketch. My issue is that when I place a line or part line on top of the Construction Line, and then for whatever reason I need to erase or alter an actual line that has been recently added, then the construction line… -
Re: Where Used Without Where Used And Part Confusion
Looking at your fourth pic, this one: It's showing that there are four airframe screws (presumably that have been derived?). This indicates a bit of an inefficient workflow. What you've done here - using the analogy of design methods from 50 years ago - is create a drawing on the drawing board for a "Horizontal Camera… -
50 Digital Joints FeatureScript - I want feedback!
First off, big thanks to everyone who has helped me bumble my way through learning FeatureScript so far: @ilya_baran, @lemon1324, @lana, @Jake_Rosenfeld, @mbartlett21, @lana, @kevin_o_toole_1, @NeilCooke (and anyone else I may have missed). This has been a really fun project to cut my teeth on so far. I've completed a… -
Re: alternative CAD systems for makers - tomorrow's startups
The best deal is this one: http://www.siemens.com/plm/startup Startups can get full license (one seat for each engineer within organization) of Solid Edge... but only for one year. So not special for those dreamers with 10's of potential products in drawer, that couldn't lift of, for year or more. There are some other… -
How to set a constraint on an assembly based on faces and not on lengths?
Context: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/c326457a6788bf73c38df747/w/5b33f7580add485dd268c063/e/bdadea73543e9531a5d11577?renderMode=0&uiState=677027d6b011fa6254f87917 The battery organizer (the larger piece) has a lid that fits in. I tried to make an assembly to check if the contact is good enough (due to the chamfers I… -
Re: Lofting
I'm no maestro, but here are a few thoughts: Your modeling is chaotic, and hard to work through with all of the transforms. I don't see why they're necessary for this piece, I think I could easily model this in place, so that the part history is more easy to work through. Loft can be tricky, I've modeled for a year+… -
Re: I'm new to CAD software, need help busy designing a trailer
About learning cad in general, IMHO You shouldn't begin with busy project, I would rather take some old work project or hobby project to learn with - too much pressure might make you frustrate. It is possible to learn 3D modeling just using web and asking questions on forum, but if guys&gals in engineering school take…
