Variable chamfer

kristoffer_falkkristoffer_falk Member Posts: 23 ✭✭
I would like to make a chamfer with variable settings for the chamfer.

It is along the highlighted edge - here I would like a chamfer with distance 1 9 mm and distance 2 2 mm. For the non-highlighted part of the same edge I would like to have distance 1 and 2 to be 2 mm.

Is that possible? Every attempt I make ends up with "failed to generate", and I am not very good at troubleshooting, when that happens...

There is no variable chamfer feature in Onshape. Probably the best way to do this would be using Loft, but you will need to create the profiles manually.  For the highlighted area, would that mean that there would be a small vertical wall before the chamfer starts? Share your doc URL and I can show you an example.

Thanks for the quick reply Neil. I suspected it might be the Loft command instead.

It is Chamfer 1 in the current design. The chamfer settings for the marked part are actually fine, but on the unmarked part I need it to be steeper (like 2 mm for both distances.

Couldn't you just tilt the face with a move face and an angle input?

    yeap:

That's an interesting approach Billy - I will try that.

Thanks Billy - I wasn't familiar with that function.

    Now I got it right.

    I generally recommend the following:

    1) Add a variable radius fillet
    2) Delete the faces generated by the fillet
    3) Loft between the start and end of the (now missing) fillet (no start or end conditions)
    4) Smile :)
