Sweep or revolute a solid part

I am trying to design a humanoid robot. Part of it involves the end stops and shells, requiring me to visualize the range of motion of shoulders or hips.
I would love if I can take a solid part (like the thigh shell) and revolute it around an axis (like the hip pitch axis). This would create a volume that represents the volume needed by the shell.
Is it possible to take a solid part and sweep it across a path, or revolute it? Anyone have any idea how to go about it?
cheers

create your path with a curve
Make a silhouette (shadow) normal to each end point of the curve
loft the silhouettes ?
