STEP file importing

When importing a STEP file which is an assembly, Onshape shows it as a breakdown of all parts but I cannot see the actual assembly.

    I found the assembly, all the way to the right of the tabs but all mates are lost..

    Yes, The mates will be lost.

    So is there any way to preserve the mates?

    If there is not motion in your model, you can select all parts and set 'Group' mate and it will keep your assembly from braking. You can also select only the static parts and recreate mates for moving parts.

    Remember to set 'Fix' for one of the static parts to keep model fixed relative to origin.
