How to add a variable as number of instances in a sketch pattern

I can not choose a variable in the "number of instances" field. See screenshot and file

Essentially this isn't supported in the sketch pattern. If you want an instance count to reference a variable you have to use the Pattern feature.

I wrote Linear Pattern Plus to help with some situations where I'd otherwise want to drive it in a sketch.
