Creating a Loft between different Geometries

SendPartRCSendPartRC Member Posts: 6
Hello everyone, I'm new to OnShape and so far really enjoy the thorough design experience it provides that I just was not getting with some of the other free alternatives.

I am trying to create a simple part that has some complex geometry I could not produce using a simple parametric CAD program. I am trying to create a mount for one of my machines to attach a shopvac hose. The initial geometry of the hole is elongated, but it will need to compress horizontally while expanding vertically to become a perfect circle for the hose end. Almost creating a kind of Venturi Tunnel to maximize the efficiency of the vacuum.

When I go to create a loft between the two geometries, the error it gives state it cannot work with an object that is a loop.
What is the best approach for this use case?

Thank you!

    Hey @SendPartRC,

Would be best if you could share your document as well so people can have a look directly at your issue/geometry.

    Cheers,
    David

That's pretty close to what I need, I'll try it out tonight. Thank you Neil.

Thanks Neil, that got me a lot further along. Though I do kind of notice another issue here, I create the shell, but it insists on closing the end at the throat for the joint that attaches to the machine. It remains solid, is this because it is meeting an intersecting face? It can't just remove the material and ignore the face below it? I could not find a specific setting, hollow did not yield a result either.

Looks like you just need to select the closed face as well so the shell goes all the way through.
