Why is face pattern failing?

Circular Feature pattern works but Face pattern of 3 rib faces returns 'pattern could not be created on the same part'.  Linear Face pattern works.   I left the failing feature in the document here.

Face pattern only works if each instance shares the same faces - in your case, the sides of the block are different.

Not sure why its failing, but under the drop down where it says face pattern if you change that to a feature pattern and select Rib 1 it works.

Thank you for your responses.  Feature certainly works.

John or anyone - you seem more knowledgeable about the 'correct use'  What is the criteria for using Face vs Feature besides what works.. :) ?  Seems to me the geometry should work either way and I remember Face pattern is less 'costly' than Feature.  And again, Linear Face pattern works with the three rib faces...
