Setback fillet corners

Anyone have a easy way or workaround for making setback corners on fillets?

It's not a great approximation, but here's a klugey version using a thickened Fill surface. You can get asymmetric setbacks using tangent splines instead of fillets.

I am looking for something more like this, where the edges are filleted as well. This is from a SaladWorks import of a model I could not make in Onshape

This is waaaaay overly complicated, but maybe the method can be adapted to your purposes.

Slightly less complicated and more robust. This method uses the built-in fillet feature on the edges, which allows for conic or curvature based fillets.

Hi, I also think that setback fillet are really cool !
I was inspired by your posts and I've created a FeatureScript to make setback fillet more easily.
It's not really working at the moment but it's a start.

I agree. Pretty cool. I noticed though that it only works for cubic corners? Maybe you can build in some more flexibility into future iterations.

It should probably be using GeometricContinuity.G1 instead of GeometricContinuity.G2
GeometricContinuity.G1 is tangent, which is what mahir used

This is really easy to change, you can also add a option in the feature dialog

Here's a slightly different approach that doesn't require right angles and uses a setback distance instead of a setback radius. It uses about a dozen features, so if I have time (or someone else), this should definitely be featurescripted.

You might also want to restrict selecting of planar faces and fillets that are not at corners.
You could update your filter to be:

EntityType.FACE && !GeometryType.PLANE && !GeometryType.CYLINDER && !GeometryType.EXTRUDED

The end result is mostly the same, but the updated method is more flexible and can be applied to non-cubic corners because it doesn't require a circular pattern. I'm actually almost done with a featurescript version.

Instead of 

!GeometryType.PLANE && !GeometryType.CYLINDER && !GeometryType.EXTRUDED

it's easier to just specify

GeometryType.SPHERE

But if you had two fillets of radius 2mm and one fillet of radius 1mm coming together at a corner, you wouldn't be able to do it.
You also wouldn't be able to do it with conic or curvature fillets

I'm just ignoring that case for now. If you look, joining fillets of different radii isn't pretty at the moment (see below). And dealing with a setback fillet that involves selecting more than just one corner surface seems a bit above and beyond for what is normally just a simple single-radius feature.

Great work @mahir your script is much cleaner than mine !
It still pretty slow, but I think it will be as long as we use the fill feature

Thanks @antoine_richermoz. Yeah, it takes about 300-400ms per corner ¯\_(ツ)_/¯, even with just G1 continuity. But thankfully OS is pretty good about caching geometry. So if you’re not changing parameters too often it won’t come into play so much.
