Quick design contest

I don't usually design stuff like this but had to model existing part. Thought it would be 12 minutes to model but found myself struggling with the approach to model it easily so that it could be also produced according to model (I only needed something that looks similar).

Wanna give it a try? 

Please reply with a link to public model and screenshot if you like.



It's missing some R but just use whatever that looks the same.

Obviously the word contest means that you should model with as few features as possible and the great reward is .. amm.. errr.. winning the contest!!

I'm sure this will end up with FeatureScript that makes any flange according to parameters with a single feature

Note that there is a difference between a 'version' and a 'revision'.  A 'revision' is a feature of our new release management system (available for professional users), while a 'version' is an immutable marker of progress in a document (available for all users).  For your derive, you needed @NeilCooke's document to have a 'version', not a 'revision' (which, I think, is why he was slightly confused).

So Owen has A.I. model generator called Neil Cooke I wan't one too but I'm gonna name it after some attractive female 

Here's images of real part - as there is no data on exact dimensions I call it a draw. Neil's model was smoothest but Eduardo had fewest features.
Can't say if Eduardo had the 10mm thickness correct..


I totally forgot about Draft, thanks for the reminder Neil.

This part is good example of something that needs you to think 'cad' rather than think how it's made in real world when modeling. 

My original model was 19 features, but with a little tuning on Neil's got it on 17.



If you are beginner or don't usually model this kind of stuff - give it a try.

Hey, here comes part B of the contest:

Add this leg to your flange. Question: What is the overall height from floor to top of flange?

No, it was 9.5 mm or so.
But with a small changes now it is 10 mm and keeps the same number of features.

You have also given me a clue to take out one more!

@philip_thomas done! I added the draft in the extrude 2 feature that I think you forgot before and 1 feature less

I have done a variable fillet to get only 1 fillet feature. Actually I don't like it but...

I am down to 10 (with two different size fillets (9 if its the same size fillet)).

Eduardo - i tried that (variable radius fillet) - i could not get both on at the same time because they blend together (i suppose it depends on the two sizes - i used 4mm for the big one and 2mm for the small one).

I'm afraid you need one more to make proper holes from that sketch position

Eduardo - very clever solution - but how are you controlling the 60mm x 40mm dimension at the base of the boss???
A checker may say that your part is the wrong size! Just saying

And as Rami said, you need countersunk holes, so you will need one more sketch!
