He has a lot of videos on youtube machining aluminum, and I think steel too. I have my Taig in my apartment (it was at my dayjob where I used it a lot then). It is fairly quiet because the spindle maxes out at 8000 RPM, using a belt drive servo motor. I only use it once every 6 months or so. The Sharif DMC uses a 20,000 RPM range router motor, as do almost all the hobby cnc's. Those will be much louder. IDK if they still have power if the speed is turned way down.

I'm very happy that we finally have forming tools, but I do hope that this limitation is addressed soon. Corner gussets would be nice, but even being able to create a bridge lance at the edge of a sheet is pretty common.
Parts like the one shown below are extremely common in the aviation world. I work with parts with features such as these every day. It starts from a flat sheet and then all of the tabs are formed over a forming tool/block. This part is difficult to model in Onshape currently. It has formed flanges along a curved edge and Onshape supports neither of these conditions.
The dream solution for a part like this is to allow it to be formed in a user-defined forming tool and then have the inverse of the new Flatten surfaces analysis tool (maybe a formed surface analysis?) provide some basic insights on the relative strain levels after forming.
Great, thanks. I think feature-wise this would be more covered with a flange along a curved edge for a few reasons:
@Jason_S Certainly from a modeling perspective being able to add a flange along a variable curvature edge would be a huge step forward as long as the resulting non-developable features can still be flattened. Being able to flatten it is the key concern with a flange feature like this.
@aeromorrison in release 1.190 the Flatten diagnostic and exporter tool was released. It will allow you to flatten a form likes this. FEA could be conducted from here.
@Nick_Holzem Yes. I referenced that a couple of comments ago when I mentioned that an inverse capability would be part of a 'dream solution'. This flatten analysis tool is awesome, but the capability isn't integrated into flat patterns like the other sheet metal tools. It's also not possible yet to bend the flanges on curved edges as a sheet metal part.
Try throwing it in the trash and then retrieving it. That process forces the document to update.

Love the new additions but I'm struggling on the Sheet Metal Forming tools related to Louvers. It seems that they have a default orientation and rotating or changing them requires a mate connector as the reference instead of sketch vertices. Is there something I am missing? Having to set a mate connector to rotate it seems a bit silly when there could be something directly in the feature to select a sketch line for orientation.

Some great drawing updates here. Still some more to come, but geometric constraints is a massive step forward, as are the custom shortcuts for drawing tools, and stacking callouts.

I'm not sure if this was proposed a lot before, but I think that being able to extrude a point on a sketch plane with just the extrude button would come in really handy. I tried my own shot at making some mininfigures, despite the fact that theres better software out there for this, but I found that maing a tanget to a 3d fit spline (with only 3 poinst) took quite some time and created a few extra features and sketches. With this addition, I feel like I could get away with only creating a sketch plane with the spline as a normal, maybe making a point in the sketch, and simply extruding it.
When sketch vertices are selected orientation of the sketch is being used. So you can define the sketch using mate connector for plane and then orient that mate connector. Alternative would be to place one instance of Louver and then pattern it.

@christian_petty it's working for me on Firefox. There has also been a problem with Safari in the past. I just tweaked the post to see if anything changes - can you try again please?
@NeilCooke graphics in What's new posts still not working in Firefox with default Enhanced Tracking Protection on but if you disable it (click on shield icon next to URL) the images and videos work again.
Actually it was related to tracking protection. They work on Standard but I apparently had it on Strict.

Hi there, great job - the CAM-Studio!
I'm working i the education-sector, a lot of my engineering-students like the easy-way-modeling of Onshape. But my only solution to explain CAM-strategies is actually Kir:Moto. What a pitty, with such an opportunity of CA_Studio in the basket!
Is it forseen, that the option will be a part of the education-versions?
