OK, I could probably figure this out given time but maybe asking would be easier.
I modeled a part, inserted it into an assembly then copied it so I have two identical parts. I then edit one copy in context and those edits 'helpfully' appear in the other copy. How can I stop it from doing that?

Or replace the part in assembly with its copy and edit in context the copy.5
