Re: dissolve composite part in an assembly
@rune_thorsen229 Composite parts work well when you download a part from a vendor which is a mess and you want to clean it up. You can easily take 15 parts & 3 surfaces and make them behave as one. But, they do become one. This is a huge concept. Sub-assemblies allow motion and instancing. They can be a better… -
Re: Collaboration on a real-life design project?
Dries- Not sure where I should be responding and hope your project isn't under an NDA. I've been capturing my thoughts when opening your documents and trying to understand how we should collaborate. I was going to post here for the world to see, or, should we make it private? I'm not going to post any images until I hear… -
Re: FeatureScript: Version control identification
So we run and release FS within our Enterprise. We have an admin who releases the FS and that release will be the version that is then pushed to the Enterprise toolbar. So there four scenarios in which this need came about: 1. If there is an issue with a FS, I am contacted and there times where I am given view only access… -
Re: How to Mate Ball Detent Mechanism?
The problem with ball detents is that there is a mechanical singularity when the ball is in the groove: it is tangent at multiple places. Assembly motion solvers don't like dealing with this sort of stuff, so you need to smooth it out to prevent the singularity from being a bother. This means making the radius larger and… -
How to update Feature Studio contents using python client?
Hi! I can successfully access feature studio content using python client API by: element = OnshapeElement("https://cad.onshape.com/documents/ca8f441b906a5949eb4e8196/w/3ffa603f8af8def1150f37d7/e/f85267336902055c5cbf495d") result = osh.client.feature_studios_api.get_feature_studio_contents( **element._get_DWMVE(),… -
Extruding up to face - Why wont this work?
Hi Guys, Loving feature script but I am new to it. Hope this is not too much of a Noob question. I am trying to extrude a rectangle in a sketch on a face of a rectangular part to extrude out to the 'opposing' face. I have tried a multitude of ways to do this without any success. My last try which looks like it should work… -
Uploading files and file formats
I've been playing around with uploading files to an Onshape file. The idea that you create a new file and that file is actually made up of multiple elements (parts, assemblies, drawings non native data etc) is the perfect way to handle a typical project in my view, albeit nothing particularly new (I was doing this in VX… -
Migrating projects from SolidWorks to Onshape: what gets lost and needs fixing by hand
I'm trying to move a colleague's project from his years of work based on a single private copy of Solidworks to Onshape so that the rest of the team can engage with it. He gave me a dump of 120 sldprt and sldasm files in a zip file. Eventually I got it all imported into Onshape, subject to a few issues which I got… -
RealityServer for Onshape Update 2.0.1
We have recently pushed out a new update to the RealityServer for Onshape application, we've labelled this release v2.0.1. This adds new features and fixes several issues reported by users. Here's a quick rundown of what is new. * The scene editing page will now timeout if left idle for 30 minutes. Another 5 minutes after… -
Public Rubik's cube solving machine designed in OnShape
Hi Onshape community. Here’s a post to talk about a Rubik’s cube solving machine completely designed in OnShape. This machine is called the BallCuber and can solve the Revenge cube (4x4x4). It is patented and mainly made of 3D printed parts and stepper motors. We (my friend @Rufus31415 and I) began this project about 2…
