Welcome to the first round of the public Model of the Month contest!
This will be our first run at reviving the Model of the Week contest that died out some time last year. As this is no longer organized by Onshape directly (for the time being) the format is changed slightly. The main difference is that this will be held on a monthly rather than weekly basis.
If possible, I would ask that this thread be made a sticky so that it can be found easily.
How to participate:
Voting:
Prizes:
This contest is open for entries immediately, and will remain open until April 29th. Voting on entries may begin immediately, as well. The winner will be announced on the 30th, so be sure to get all of your entries and votes in before then!
- The contest is open to any user, your level of subscription does not matter
- The age of the file does not matter. You are free to enter any existing project you may have, there is no need to create something specifically for the contest.
- Despite the name of the contest being "model" of the month, things like Feature Scripts are also acceptable entries.
- Simply importing a model from another source into Onshape does not count! It must be clearly evident that Onshape was used to create or manipulate the document that you are entering!
- To enter, reply in this thread. Your post should include the following:
- A link to the document you wish to enter. Be sure to make your document public!
- A screenshot of the document. Please only one screenshot per entry.
- A brief description of the project to help other users understand what complexities or difficulties may have been involved.
Voting:
- All users, whether you enter the contest yourself or not, may vote on submissions.
- Use the built-in forum features to "Vote Up" entries of your choosing. Please refrain from using "Vote Down" as it goes against the spirit of the contest.
- At the end of the month the entry (or entries) with the highest number of "upvotes" will be declared winner
- A new thread will be created eventually to archive monthly winners
- Please only post in this thread with entries! For any feedback, questions, or discussion, please post in this thread:
Prizes:
- Since this contest is not organized by Onshape, no forum badges will be given out, sorry.
- An Amazon gift card of a yet-to-be-determined value will be awarded to the winner.
- Bragging rights
This contest is open for entries immediately, and will remain open until April 29th. Voting on entries may begin immediately, as well. The winner will be announced on the 30th, so be sure to get all of your entries and votes in before then!

I don't have too much time to model outside work but while we had one on construction site I just had to try it out. I hope I get it finished someday.
I was thinking of improvement to existing 'Haulottes' so that rear ladder would automatically go down when in bottom position to help a person climb in and go up when cage is lifted to prevent falling.
Grab the upper cage and move it, limits are somewhat realistic.
I was using these very calipers to measure crap on my desk, when I pulled out my cheap tape measure and eye-balled every nook and cranny I could find on my precision measuring tool and drew it! But I think it turned out OK.
I was also testing the accuracy of OnShape's Rack and Pinion mates, Which as you can play around with in the assembly, It is spot on

I wanted to try the sheet metal capabilities of Onshape so I created this model. The addition of sheet metal to Onshape is getting me one step closer to making the full switch to Onshape as the primary CAD software.
Mount the bottle opener to any surface, then hang the catch box to catch bottle caps.

This is an example document we use in our trainings of Onshape.
It is a old version, previous to sheet metal features.

This FeatureScript let you split one or more parts in a FeatureStudio like a pie in the number of sections you define.

I've written a little feature in FeatureScript capable of scaling in any chosen direction or set of directions.
The scaling option in Part Studio only does the first of four option listed below.
Choice between:
- Uniform scaling; in the standard coordinate system
- Non-uniform scaling; in the standard coordinate system
- Scaling in one direction; one direction query, one scale factor query
- Scaling in three directions; one or two direction queries (second will default perpendicular to the first until queried),
Options:the third direction will be perpendicular to both, one scale factor query for each direction
- Keep Tools Boolean for keeping the original bodies and scaling a copy
- Use Entity Centre Boolean for using the calculated centroid (centre of surrounding box) or
- Feature Type choice between Feature or Entity queries. Not entirely sure whether Feature Scale works as it should.
Screenshot showing the four main options on spheres (all identical to begin with):So far it seems to work with bodies, faces, sketches, wires, and points (for the latter three you'll need to specify a reference point)
It's far from perfect, the script has quite some clutter, i'm sure I have taken some detours and is has too many if/else statements.
But if you find it useful: have a copy, or import it to your collection of FS features. If you have any input for me, or tips and tricks on how to improve; all the better, do let me know! I shameless copy-pasted this from the thread where I linked it yesterday...

It typically moves after you've dropped it on the ground a few times.

This is a long throw overhung subwoofer basket design.
Most speaker and specifically subwoofer basket designs are trademarked, and patented. It is not a very progressive industry. This basket design is free to use, and can be made from metal plate, without having to pay for expensive tooling for a cast basket design.
@john_mcclary is the winner of the first MOTM contest with his Caliper model, congratulations!
Thank you to all participants for your submissions, votes, and feedback. Please have a look at the discussion thread for feedback related to the contest.

For my victory lap: It was mentioned in another forum post (somewhere). That I should make this digital. Right after I sketched up a odometer style counter.
I was tempted to post it soon after, but didn't want to "cheat" by submitting another right after.
Have a look, and let me know what you think.
Hint: read each number only after the horizontal line on the number crosses over or touches the horizontal bar on the case.

Did you forget to make it public?
I don't see any use for that model but I think it's purely awesome example of what Onshape can do. Nice work with rack&pinion mates and great idea to replicate digital caliper. You don't see these odometers too much these days, I still remember how nice it felt to see all those 9999's slowly turning into zeros in old mopeds / motorcycles / cars
Yet that odometer style is still accurate and cheap way to show adjustment value of screw type movement.
