Standard Content - Edit Appearance

I am adding in standard content...
6-32 x .25 phillips flat head - stainless steel - black
I want the hardware to be black in the model and not just show up in the BOM indicating it should be black.
Support said that i should right click on the part in the list and choose "edit appearance" but that option is not there. Anyone have any advice?
You cannot change the color of standard content at this time. They are versioned parts and we do not have a mechanism for you to change colors of versioned parts. We could, in the future, include it as a company defined property much like standard content part number and description.
Not everyone wants content to be the color it exists as in real life. Some companies want different sizes or types of fasteners to be different colors to easily identify them on an assembly.
We will be adding you to an improvement request.

Having the appearance and also vendor be company defined parameters would make standard content useful for our group too.
I had that thought before but standard content isn't available for deriving in unfortunately!
The closest alternative is to use a context and "copy in place".
Ugh. I just assumed that standard content worked like any other parts.
I guess this is one more reason that it would be nice to have "semi-custom" or "semi-standard" (?) content which could be customized more than what's currently available.
