Make a Part of an Assembly
Hello I am a new user of Onshape. I have downloaded a Assembly from GrabCad but there are no Mates that holds the parts together. Can a make a Part of the hole Assembly or make a "Fix" of the hole assembly...? (I hva previously done this in Solidworks by saving the Assembly as an Part.....)

Tangent Bearings
Perhaps this is an easier question than my previous one, as well as being better described. Again on my camera mount: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/f5e8fcbad57136b903546cf6/w/f040dc06b25df32d39bb5f4d/e/62cc5d76096fe96e5592a60e When I try to make a tangent mate between the lower bearing that rides on the pin slot and…

How to export parts as one
Sorry if this ends up a dup, but the post never showed up I have a parts studio with threaded posts that I use throughout a project. I keep it separate (and another for nuts) just because otherwise the primary parts studio is chaotic and the parts don't need to directly relate (or maybe as you see they do). When, in my…

Mates and movements, help!
Hello, I've been trying to give some motion to these parts. I want the pins to move inside the slots. My question is, how can I do this? Any help and advise will help! https://cad.onshape.com/documents/af70647e54204867be7af5e8/w/84221d8e418047d191ac4fb7/e/c3e44b3275f549bba7eb6158 Bless, CC

Duplicate parts in Assembly
When the feature tree in the assembly shows <2> in the name of the part for ex: Bobstay of the Knee <2>. All other items in the assembly show <1> Does this mean that there are two parts in the assembly? Does it mean the part has been removed and added again?…

Parts with multiple parts in an assembly
I'm an experienced SW user but brand new to OnShape. I'm importing several STEP files into my workspace, each of which is made up of multiple parts, and each of which is being translated into native OS just fine. When I import the parts into an assembly, it imports all of the sub-parts (into a flat tree structure), and…

Planar mate and its use?
More a design intent question really. When would people use planar mates. They seem to join two parts into a positional relationship where you can still move the parts positions but then bring them back using the reset command. Also apparently you can limit the amouns of movement in the x,y planes and the amount of…

Parts studios & shared dimensions
Am I supposed to build all my parts in one studio, or each part in a separate studio? It seems like it will be more difficult to model parts that fit together if I can't view the complimentary part while designing the new part. And what if I want to use the complimentary part for external reference? I looked for tutorials…

Interference in a Hinge
Is there a command in Onshape that will help me find interference in a hinge? It's probably obvious but section view seems to be the only option I can find.

Mate Connector with multiple Owner Parts? Shared?
This goes back to my "in space" Mate Connector for parts that don't physically touch. I would like at least two parts to "share" a Mate Connector. For the moment I need to create two Mate Connectors, one owned by Part 1, the other owned by Part 2. (and Part 3...) which are on the same "skeleton point" in the Parts Studio.…

What does the Group symbol with an arrow mean??
I noticed in a "higher level" assembly that the Group symbols in the "lower assembly" had arrows on them? Searched Help and Forums and didn't find a match! Not to mention playing with suppressing/unsuppressing the Group in the "lower level" assembly and moving individual Parts around in the "higher level" assembly…

Importing files from Maya/Blender... (mesh)
Hi, I am working in a project that aesthetics and mechanical design is involved at the same time. Specifically I am working with some 3D scans that has been refined and corrected on Maya. From Maya this mesh has been exported to IGES files and then imported to Onshape. My surprise is that once imported it is recognised as…

How can you fasten parts as mates in Onshape without having specific features to reference?
I have an assembly that I am putting together and it is basically a group of aluminum tubes that will be welded (actually welded, not CAD welded) into a frame structure. My issue is that the precise placement for one of the parts should be at 72 inches along another 120 inch piece. Do I need to import these parts together…
