Modeling a Hose Reel

famadorianfamadorian Member Posts: 390 ✭✭✭
I'm interested in how I can model a hose reel.

If I use a simple helix, I can't get the hose to layer itself onto the reel;)  There are like 5-6 layers in a hose reel like this:

Sorry for not answering your question but why would you model the hose to the reel? I'm pretty sure it's not for print and modeling things like threads or bunch of hose is not time well spent  ;)  and it will create unnecessary performance hit to the model.

If you wan't to render product image just create top layer with some dummy pieces on sides.

ps. Without testing I think it would be multiple helix sweeps on top of each other and boolean together

@3dcad is right, if this is just for looks, only do the outer most ring. Helix is the slowest feature in cad.

otherwise here is one way to do it:

I made 3 layers and swept along the helix's
    clockwise
    counter clockwise
    clockwise

then connected the ends with a 90 deg piece, then boolean union them all together.

I like it; I like it alot;)

    Thanks;)
