How to Modify Imported Parts (*.stl?)
I've commissioned a professional engineer to design some very complicated parts for me and I'd like import them into onshape with the desire to change some dimensions of the parts as needed. Basically my project is going to be trial and error, so I'd like to be able to modify some of the parts provided so that I can 3D…

Large Assembly Import - SW Pack and Go - Long Translation Time
Hi, I have been importing our assemblies over from Solidworks through pack & go. It has worked well so far for smaller assemblies (20-200 distinct parts) which took 1 to 2 hours to translate after the .zip upload. I tried importing some larger assemblies (10000 parts if i count PCB components) and it has been taking much…

After importing STL, is there a way to compute it back to a solid?
Hi guys, most other CADs have an option to make solids out of imported surface geometry I was wondering if OS has/will have anything like that. Very intricate models are very difficult to replicate after being imported in OS so the best option would be to convert them to solids inside OS so that they can be worked on as…

I want to gather solidworks parts into a part studio and continue working on them there. How?
Derived parts are cumbersome as you have to modify each part in a seperate browser tab, then create new versions etc: very messy. It seems by far the best way is to make an assembly of the parts in solidworks and pack&go it then import the lot. Is that true? However, if I find later I've left some of the parts out of the…

Can't get Carr Lane part Drawings.
I have just signed up to Onshape and have nothing installed on my Laptop. So I just go the Onshapes website and log in. I'm trying to import some part programs from Carr Lane in the following 3D formatts, .step and .igs or .sldprt. Do I need to install another programs in my Laptop? If so what ones do I need?

How to insert imported geometry into Part Studio feature tree?
I have to design parts around an imported surface/solid that I'd like to be able to update as needed at a later date. I've already built an extensive feature tree off of a preliminary surface but now I'm unable to substitute in a newly imported surface/solid. I can import the solid into it's own tab but can't seem to bring…

[Bug Report]complex .stp model doesn't import correctly.
Hello. I just signed up today and wanted to provide feedback regarding a bug I discovered. I tried uploading a .stp (STEP) model I exported from 123D Design version 2.1 and there appears to be a surface missing from the model as displayed by OnShape after uploading. Here's how the model should look (and how it does look in…

Upload Solidworks or IGS files.
I'm having issues uploading Solidworks or iges files. The
file will upload but I don’t see any geometry. All the tab shows is the
Name, File name and File type. This seems to be the same for any file type, I have tried
.sldprt .sldasm .igs and .x_t file types and all have the same issue. Am I missing something
when trying…

Import DXF fill issue
I'm trying to import a DFX of a logo that I saved out of inkscape as a DXF. I then want to remove this shape from the part under it. However, as you see in the image below, the dxf imports as the outside paths only, therefore, its only the outline that I can extrude/remove. This is not what I want as I want the fill to be…

Importing a mesh file into Onshape
I need to get the shape of an object I have into Onshape. It's my understanding that a 3D scanner will create what's called a mesh file. Can I import that into Onshape and work with it to create a part? Thanks, Jay

How can I insert existing Onshape files (like a block) into a new assembly or Part Studio? example: building a house and you want to insert 2x4's, doors, etc. without drawing them from scratch every time.

Can I import an image file to use as a backdrop so that I can trace over the top of it?
I am trying to reverse engineer a part with a complex geometry and don't have access to a 3D scanner. It seems like it would be easy enough to import an image of the part that I could use to at least trace the 2D projection and then extrude. Is there a way to do this in Onshape or some other software?

importing files
I'm wondering what types of files can be imported into onshape for editing? I would love to be able to take something from a place like thingaverse and edit it here to 3D print. Thanks!

Why cant I insert a model into an assembly after importing it ??
I have a project that I wanted to try out onshape with. I created several parts in 1 part studio and them inserted them in to an assembly, no problem. I then imported a model from the internet, and it created a new part studio of that part only, but I cant select it to insert in the assembly. I then created another new…
