Best way to record Gif/Video of using Onshape?

Hey guys - What is everybody using for creating videos (animated gifs) that you embed in the forum posts? They look super clean and very nice... Is it a web browser extension, or third party, or what?

@FastwayJim Gifs are typically created from a number of pics or a video. There are tools out there but many do one or the other. You best bet it to use a tool like snagit to generate a video that you can chop up and edit then run thru a simple gif creator. There are a lot of those on the web as well.

I use gif fun it's free and easy. It allows you to drag images in and then save as a gif.

@matthewloew - I'm trying out Jing... So, is there a way to get a gif automatically or is swf the only output? I've found ways to convert, but nothing that's automatic.

Saving as a png seems to be the only output format for a static image. You can edit though Snagit - I'm not sure what output options there are through that route.

I'm looking to create short videos, without having to manually manage a bunch of screenshots or convert video files. I'm really surprised there isn't "an app for that" yet...

Thanks, @LouGallo. I've used some freeware gif creators in the past from a punch of pics. I was hoping there was a one-click solution tied to screen capture. If I was smarter, I'd just make on myself!

Okay, @LouGallo, I tried gyazo, recordit, and licecap, and I like Licecap the best. The others automatically upload the file to the web, which I don't want. Licecap is about as simple as it gets, and it keeps things local, which gives me control over how I share it... Thanks!

I prefer more this gif recorder, it can record any screen activity as GIF or video formats. And it does not have time limitation in recording.

I have been trying out Screencastify. It's a Chrome extension so it even works on a Chromebook. The downside is the ability to save as a GIF is only in the $20 premium version.

Sadly there is no freemium path - post a trial it's $299.00 for a single user.

It's similar to LiceCap but with more controls and it contains an editor.

The one I am using now is Joyoshare Screen Recorder for Windows. It can record video with audio in perfect sychronazation. I have used it for a long time. Its shortcoming is that it cannot support GIF currently. Aside from this, it is actually a simple-to-use yet powerful tool.

You can try some online screen recorder such as Loom or Screencastify. I remember one of them has the GIF feature.

Thanks, bro. I remember that the GIF export feature is not free though? I am trying Apowersoft now and it can export many different formats.

For Windows 10 users, hold the Windows Key down and press "g".
This is called the X-Box Game Bar.
It works well for recording (but not editing).

It works perfectly for this. You can set your sceen area, frame rate, pause in the middle of recording, edit and remove frames.

I finally figured out how to do this recently on MacOS. QuickTime Player will do a screen record of the full screen or part of a screen. Then there are lots of ways to convert the .MOV to a .GIF. I downloaded the free Gifski.app from the Apple App store and it seems to be working well.
