Moving multi-jointed/multiply-mated assemblies (inverse kinematics in OnShape?)
Is there a detailed description somewhere of how OnShape handles part movement in multi-joint chained assemblies? Specifically wondering about why it seems like sometimes moving a part at the end of a chain appears to work as expected (ie pretty much how it would in the physical world, presumably using inverse kinematics…

Part Studios in created in context are moving away from origin with each "update context"?
Hi everyone, the above has been affecting one of my project documents for some time now. I was wondering if someone knew the reason and a possible solution? This is one of the part studios being affected. Every time I hit update context, the piece created in context shifts to the left of the image for some reason. Sketch 1…

Replaced parts won't mate in assembly
Hi all, I have a set of parts that I replaced with parts (same geometry, just different properties) from another assembly. The mates that previously applied to the original parts broke, and when I try to fix them with the new instances, I now get told that they are over-defining the assembly. Does anyone have experience…

How do I use mates/relations to simulate rolling down a curved ramp?
Hi, sorry if a similar question has been posted before. I'm working on a project where I send a vehicle down a ramp and try to stop as close as possible to a target point decided on the day of the competition. I've created the vehicle I plan to use but I'm still designing the ramp in Onshape. One possible issue I thought…

Why can't I create a mate connector in between these entities?
I want to put a mate connector in between these entities in order to make a revolute mate with the center of the cylindrical axle. I was previously using a slider mate in conjunction with a planar mate (mate connector between the angled bar), but the rack and pinion relation doesn't allow me to select slider mates (despite…

Adding to an existing part studio (that was already added to an assembly)
Hello, Having trouble and am hoping for help. I created an assembly. When I went back to the part studio and created a few more parts within part studio, it doesn't automatically add it to the assembly. That's ok. However, when I place them in the assembly they are not placed where I created them in relation to the other…

Insert Positioned into Assembly
When inserting into assembly, is there any way to insert it, the way it was intended, from the parts studio?;) Like in this example, there are 75 surfaces in the part studio. I have to manually position them or is there a smarter way to insert them? Also, how can I select all 75 at once and insert? From this…

Axis needed for circular pattern of a square feature
I would like to create a circular pattern of the square corner (purple) part in an assembly where there is no cylindrical shape and no axis to select. I created a construction line on the grey base part in the part studio so that I would have a line to select as the axis of pattern, but this sketch line does not show up in…

Derived Assembly
I figured out I can't do boolean operations in the assembly, so I would have to use derive in the part studio, but the part studio cannot derive assemblies, as far as I understand;) I have inserted a sink assembly on top of cabinet assembly, but the cabinets would have to be cut to not stick out of the sink;)

Odd mate behavior in multilevel assembly.
Referring to the picture below. Of the 4 blue elbows 2 (1 and 4) of them are in the wrong position. You can see that they are part of the Cooling System sub-assembly. If I attempt to drag the elbows about in the workspace then they will not move. If I go through to the Cooling System sub-assembly the parts are in the…

Import Solidworks Assembly
Is it possible to import a solidworks asm? FYI I don't have the software, only the files.

Beam feature script: Instance count / cut list in assembly
It's been a while since I've used the beams feature script, the last time I did use the tool I recall that there was no "easy" way to create a cut list or automatically count the number of identical parts. I wanted to see if there has been a change, I searched the forums and did not see anything new. I have one part studio…

Wire moves relative to part sliding
I am trying to design a telescoping boom of a mobile crane, where the boom extension is controlled by a wire and I would like to simulate the telescope behavior of all participating parts in relationship to the movement. I can simulate the telescope behaviour of the two components with the slide mate connector and a linear…
