helix

Hi, So I recently got back to Onshape, and I have been messing around with the Helix function. But I keep running into problems.. I want to be able to make my Helix from one shape to another. See example here: https://cad.onshape.com/documents/2eae5b4cb4d22a888521b13d/w/3797173ca787aeecbd147251/e/a048472f26adb8dc10d7e055…

Hi all! I am working with my PLTW IED students on creating parts for the miniature train project using OnShape due to remote learning (we use Inventor in the classroom). We've been following a tutorial for making threads for a screw and understand the concept, however, the helix still shows up after we complete the revolve…

Hello! How do I make a solid spiral on a cone with smooth transitions on top and bottom? I have made a solid cone with a helix on the surface and swept a triangle sketch along the helix to make the spiral, and also a solid 6mm cylinder in the middle of the cone, like a shaft. I would like to extend the solid spiral into…

Hi team! I've been successful in the past creating custom threads using a helix, a profile and the Sweep tool. This time however, the sweep renders correctly but shows as an error / invalid geometry. What should I check to make it generate properly? Here's a link to the doc if it…

trying to figure out how to create a shape like this in onshape. just the basic shape, not all the twig detals. was trying to wrap a helix around a sphere, but that doesn't work.any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I would like to know if it is possible to have a line wrap around a body like the one shown in the picture below. The line should wrap around it with a constant pitch and no gaps. I want to use the line as a sweep path for some tubing (yes I have to draw the tubing). I cant think of an easy way, I can't even really think…

Hi all, I'm trying to create a helix around a cone with its starting point relative to the smaller end of the cone, but I can't seem to figure out a way to get onshape to do that. I want the helix to start from this position: ...but as you can see, since the start angle is 0 deg, the helix is actually being generated from…

Hi, I had a quick scan for a spring or helix tutorial (I wish to learn all about the helix type functionality to make design a custom spring). I wasn't able to easily find this and thought to ask... ? Thanks in advance. Nick.

Hi, I am new to Onshape, I have Solidworks experience but it has been a few years since I have worked with it. I think I have forgotten more than I seem to remember. I am making a very simple ball socket but can't create a profile for the Helix because I can't seem to select anything except the Origin when any sketch tool…

I have a swept cable (circle) of constant diameter that runs along a path composed of sketch lines and fillets in an S shape. This is an armored cable and my client wants the helix cut armoring to be represented. My question is: Can I run a helix along this curving path to perform a thread-like cut along the cable? Does…

Can a flat pattern be made of a helical screw flight?

I'm interested in how I can model a hose reel. If I use a simple helix, I can't get the hose to layer itself onto the reel;) There are like 5-6 layers in a hose reel like this:

I have a helix on a cylindrical surface. Then there is an equilateral triangle attached to the helix. The triangle's lateral length is the same as the helix's helical pitch. That should be enough to cut a thread... BUT: Using the same lateral lenght for the triangle and at the same time for the helical pitch does not work…

I am struggling to create a helix with a distinct shape to put a thread on a plastic bottle. The help file is not very helpful. Coming from Solidworks I can't find the right tools.

I found this public file and watched onshape's tutorial on how to do this but when I get to the sweep function, it doesn't work. I followed this : https://www.onshape.com/cad-blog/tech-tip-creating-a-thread My problem :

I need to build an auger on the ID of a conical surface that extends beyond the ends of a cone. I have succeeded with the sweep on a cone, but the rest is beyond me at this point. I profiled a cone with extensions at either end, but now it is no longer a cone. What can I do to achieve this?

Good Morning, I'm new to cad in general and have been playing around for a week. Now I'm busy with my application for the Design Academy and I need some help. I want to 3d print something that looks like the inside of this tube (static mixer) but in a conic shape. The furthest I came was a spiral. Thanks in advance.

I tried to create a helix on an shape made from a swept circle (the bent orange object), and also a partially revolved circle (the green object), but neither worked. Is a bent helix possible?

Hi, i don't seem to have the option to hide the cylinder after i have created the helix... there is no eye when i hover over the feature in the tree. Regards Bart

Hello All, How do you extrude a helix on a rod? Its probably extremely easy but I cant seem to figure it out. Thank you
